The National Chamber of the Restaurant Industry and Seasoned Foods (Canirac) in Yucatan revealed that thanks to a federal injunction against the nationwide Anti-Smoking Law that prohibited smoking areas in restaurants, restaurant owners will be able to reopen these spaces for smokers.
It was the president of this business organization, Claudia Yamily González Góngora, who reported that the Fourteenth Collegiate Administrative Court of the First Circuit granted Canirac a definitive suspension of the decree, allowing affiliated restaurants to operate these smoking areas again.
She explained that since the law came into effect on January 15 of this year, restaurants were forced to disable the designated smoking areas, which had a negative impact on the sector.
She emphasized that the restaurants must comply with the established guidelines to operate these smoking areas, ensuring the protection of the health of non-smokers as well as the right to personal development for those who wish to smoke. However, she mentioned that this only applies to those restaurants affiliated with Canirac.
