Protesters and police officers clash in Chilpancingo

This Monday, some 1,500 civilians armed with sticks and stones blocked the Mexico-Acapulco federal highway at Petaquillas, in Chilpancingo, as well as the Autopista del Sol, to demand the release of two detainees.

The conflict began when the settlers broke through a police barricade and seized a State Police vehicle, which led to an eventual confrontation with the police and the National Guard.

The agents were overpowered and had to retreat. Guerrero authorities called for dialogue in order to know the demands of the protesters and thus avoid damages to third parties.

Last weekend, five public transport drivers lost their lives when they were attacked in their vehicles in Chilpancingo.

In addition, just a few days ago Otilia Hernandez, mayor of Chilpancingo, was captured in a meeting with a criminal leader.
