Proposal to create an alert for child violence in Yucatán

In Yucatán, aggressions against minors are becoming increasingly evident, but what is more concerning is that the perpetrators are government institutions. Therefore, it is necessary to create the figure of an alert for child violence in the region, as proposed by lawyer Dariana Quintal Narváez.

The legal practitioner pointed out that in recent years, she has documented cases where girls, boys, and adolescents are victims of physical, sexual, and institutional abuse by authorities.

Among them, she stated that within the Comprehensive Center for Minors in Abandonment (Caimede), children under the custody of the Yucatán state government are constantly subjected to “punishments” involving physical abuse and inhumane treatment.

One of the tools used to commit these offenses is the so-called “little jail” within this care center, a room where allegedly girls and boys who do not comply with orders issued within the walls of Caimede are locked up.

Quintal Narváez pointed out that during an incident that occurred within this facility located in the Mulsay neighborhood, they requested support from the Yucatán State Public Security Secretariat (SSP), and a group of minors, including girls, were left under the care of state police officers.

A teenager who went through this situation, the lawyer added, later reported that one of the police officers asked them to lift their blouse to see underneath it.
