Passenger bus overturns and falls into ravine in Oaxaca

A passenger bus, originating from Nezahualcóyotl, State of Mexico, overturned in the municipality of Magdalena Peñasco, Oaxaca, resulting in 27 deaths and around 17 injuries, two of them in serious condition, according to José de Jesús Romero, the state’s secretary of government.

According to reports, the bus veered off the road and fell into a ravine approximately 25 meters deep.

Residents and authorities rushed to the scene to assist the victims and carry out rescue operations.

Salomón Jara, the governor of Oaxaca, expressed his condolences and stated that he instructed various state agencies to travel to the area to attend to the affected individuals: “We send our condolences and support to the families of the deceased, whom we will also provide all the assistance necessary to cope with their terrible loss.”

The bus was heading towards the community of Yosonduá in the Mixteca region, and the accident occurred around six-thirty in the morning.

Among the deceased were 13 women, 13 men, and a one-year-old baby.
