The Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris) has released the results of the sampling conducted at 289 beaches in our country to protect the health of national and international tourists.

In coordination with the Sanitary Risk Protection Areas (APRS) of the 17 coastal states, this federal authority monitored and analyzed over 2,100 seawater samples to detect the presence of the bacterium Enterococcus faecalis and determine which beaches are suitable for recreational use during the summer of 2023.

Out of the total monitored beaches during this second vacation period, 289 in total, 275 of them, equivalent to 95 percent, are considered suitable since they are below the maximum limit of 200 enterococci per 100 milliliters of water.

However, 14 beaches located in Baja California, Chiapas, Guerrero, Jalisco, Oaxaca, and Veracruz exceeded the maximum limit of bacteria:

As a result, the authorities will coordinate with the APRS of the six aforementioned entities to implement immediate sanitation actions to reach optimal conditions in the cited 14 beaches and prevent health risks to national and international tourists.
