20 Skin Cancer patients from Progreso will go through surgery

The College of Dermatologists of Yucatán, in collaboration with the Yucatán Ministry of Health (SSY), successfully carried out the Skin Cancer Detection campaign this Sunday at the Comprehensive Health Services Center (CESSA) in Progreso.

On this occasion, over 200 patients from Progreso and nearby communities were evaluated, and it is expected that around 20 extramural surgeries will be scheduled for August 5th.

José Cerón Espinosa, Director of the Dermatological Center of Yucatán, emphasized the importance of adopting good sun protection habits to prevent skin diseases that may lead patients to require surgery.

He also highlighted the collaboration between the College of Dermatologists of Yucatán, the Dermatological Center, the Hospital Network of the SSY, and the Extramural Surgery Coordination in carrying out this skin cancer detection campaign.

The initiative aimed to improve the quality of life for patients with dermatological conditions and involved the participation of registered physicians and Carlos Isaac Hernández Fuentes, Director of Health Prevention and Protection at the SSY.

The official expressed his gratitude to Héctor Francisco Proy Trujillo, President of the College of Dermatologists of Yucatán, and all the professionals in the college for their valuable collaboration in this altruistic endeavor.

Hernández Fuentes emphasized that this campaign was carried out to prioritize providing specialized services to individuals with limited resources and without social security coverage.

The purpose is to provide them with medical attention and help them regain their quality of life.

During the event, Víctor Hevia Loria, an elderly patient, expressed his gratitude for receiving comprehensive care for a nose lesion, thus avoiding the need to travel to the capital and incur additional expenses.

Alma Pech, a resident of Progreso, thanked the physicians from the College of Dermatologists for providing facilities and treatment for her and her children, who also have skin conditions due to constant exposure to the sun.
