After Espita received the recognition of “Pueblo Mágico” (Magic Town), the administration led by Mayor Martha Eugenia Mena Alcocer will present a project to the State Government to begin the transformation of the image of the town center and announced the arrival of two hotels.

The municipal president explained that the project consists of carrying out underground wiring and street paving in the town center, to give the community a tourist image. This work requires 50 million pesos, funds that they do not have, so they will seek support from the state administration or the private sector.

She mentioned that they have plans to create a tourist stop in the Xuilub district, where there are cenotes, wooden artisans, and hammock weavers, in order to also promote tourism in the Espita districts. Additionally, the current administration established the Tourism Department to promote the arrival of visitors.

She added that they are creating a tourist route so that tourists can visit the cenotes, cycling trails, caves, Mayan baths, and underground rivers. To provide detailed information about these attractions, a tourist information module was inaugurated 15 days ago.

“During these vacations, we will have cultural events such as trova concerts, folkloric ballet dances from the municipality, we will organize night bike routes, and on Sundays, we will have gastronomic and artisanal showcases with jarana shows and a bike route. All of this will take place in the town center,” said the mayor.

She mentioned that Espita has around 40 hotel rooms for those who wish to stay in the community, including boutique hotels and lodges. In that regard, she announced that investors are planning to build two new hotels, which would be ready next year as they are currently processing the construction permit.
