In an effort to improve the quality of life for residents and preserve the natural beauty of the port, Mayor Julián Zacarías led the launch of the campaign “Let’s Clean Progreso.” This initiative aims to strengthen the work of the City Council, promote community participation, and create awareness about the importance of maintaining a clean and waste-free environment.
As is well known, Progreso is a popular and heavily visited tourist destination, both by locals and tourists from around the world. Due to this, the city has experienced rapid growth and, consequently, an increased demand for public services such as urban cleaning. For this reason, the City Council has decided to increase the number of work crews in order to provide better service to the citizens. They have hired 100 new temporary employees to contribute to the cleaning tasks.
During the ceremonial event, Zacarías Curi stated, “Through this program, we will double our capacity to take action and maintain our streets in optimal conditions. Our cleaning workers are heroes, and the best reward they can have is the recognition and respect of society. But not only that, the most important way to contribute to their work is by taking responsibility and taking care of Progreso together. With that purpose, we ask all citizens and visitors to our port not to litter the streets. The City Council is working at full speed, but it will always be much easier if we do it together to achieve positive change.”
Finally, the mayor symbolically handed out uniforms to the new cleaning employees and provided them with work equipment such as tools, containers, and garbage bags. He also pledged to continue renewing the program if the set goals are achieved within the next three months.
