Texas prohibits gender-affirmation treatments for minors

Texas has banned doctors from prescribing hormone treatments or puberty blockers, as well as performing gender transition surgeries, for individuals under 18 years old. Governor Greg Abbott, a Republican, ratified a law that criminalizes such practices.

The measure is set to take effect on September 1st, although those who are already undergoing these treatments are exempt.

Conservatives argue that the law prevents minors from making decisions they may later regret, while Democrats warn of the risk of further stigmatizing the LGBTQ+ community.

Advocacy groups also caution that the law may further marginalize and isolate transgender youth.
