The claws of criminal groups have made their presence felt in the country through executions, massacres, narcomantas (drug-related banners), extortion, kidnappings, threatening videos, and even the murder of police officers, politicians, and officials. These incidents have been detected in 1,488 out of the 2,471 municipalities in the country.

The criminal organizations with the greatest presence in Mexico are the Jalisco New Generation Cartel and the Sinaloa Cartel. The former operates in 28 states, while the latter operates in 24.

The Gulf Cartel has been detected in 10 states, the Northeast Cartel in eight states, the Michoacana Family in seven states, and Los Zetas in six states.

The Templarios operate in five states, while the Chapitos operate in four. “Smaller” organizations such as the Beltrán Leyva, Caborca Cartel, Los Talibanes, Los Rojos, Los Salazar, and Los Viagras each operate in three states.

After an investigation of over six months, which includes data from the federal government and state prosecutors, as well as the consultation of open sources and the thorough review of documents hacked from Sedena by the Guacamaya collective, the consulting firm AC Consultores prepared an extensive study, the conclusions of which were accessed by EL UNIVERSAL.

In just 12 days of the current month of June, the country was shaken by images of bloodshed from all corners of Mexico. These were murders and massacres that took place in distant locations such as Chiapas, Chihuahua, Guanajuato, Morelos, Tamaulipas, Michoacán, Oaxaca, Veracruz, Guerrero, Sonora, Zacatecas, and Querétaro.

During those days, 971 intentional homicides were recorded, averaging 80.9 per day. These homicides contribute to a total of over 158,000 violent deaths that have occurred during the administration of Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

The report consulted by EL UNIVERSAL provides an overview that explains this violence and speaks of an unprecedented crime crisis.
