The Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT), in collaboration with the company Huawei, is calling university students of science and engineering related to ICT who are in their final year of studies or who have completed their studies within a period not exceeding 12 months, to participate in the Seeds for the Future 2023 contest.

The purpose is to develop local talent, promote a greater understanding of the use of Information and Communications Technologies (ICT), and promote ideas and projects for innovative technological solutions with social impact.

The Seeds for the Future program, since its first edition and until 2019, offered the best science, technology, engineering and mathematics students the opportunity to study cutting-edge ICT technologies in China at Huawei’s headquarters, in addition to gaining experience through practice in a cross-cultural environment. More than 5,770 students from various countries have traveled to China for training.

The winners of the 2021 edition of the program were Alejandro Chuc Arcia and Sergio Gamboa Candila, graduates of the Software Engineering and Physics Engineering programs of the Mathematics and Engineering Faculties of the Autonomous University of Yucatan (UADY). In last year’s contest, Alejandro Santoscoy Rivero, also a graduate of the UADY’s Physics Engineering program, was the winner with the autonomous driving vehicle prototype project “El Rover Agrícola”.

This edition was the first hybrid version of the program, in which the 15 winners traveled to Mexico City to participate in a bootcamp (intensive study methodology focused on acquiring practical and specific knowledge related to software development) at the Tecnológico de Monterrey.

The students attended live sessions for 5 days and actively participated in the development of their Tech4Good projects, a contest designed to help young adults learn about the latest trends in digitization and explore how digital technologies can address common social problems.
