Hand in hand with the new generations seeking to join the actions of protection and environmental care carried out by the Municipal Government, Mayor Renán Barrera inaugurated a Mega Green Point at the Colegio de Bachilleres del Estado de Yucatán (COBAY), Santa Rosa campus. This initiative will support the recycling projects carried out by the school for the benefit of the community.

During the signing of the letter of intent between the Mérida City Council and the institution of high school students, held at the Santa Rosa Campus, the Mayor emphasized the importance of valuing environmental actions from classrooms and school campuses. Through the efforts of each student, the culture of waste separation, recycling, and proper waste disposal is fostered starting from their own homes.

Barrera Concha pointed out that, thanks to the actions undertaken through the “Zero Waste” program, 1,030 tons of waste have been collected from September 2018 to May 2023. This has led to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in Mérida and a decrease in the amount of waste entering the landfill.

The Mayor was accompanied by the General Director of the Colegio de Bachilleres de Yucatán, Marco Antonio Pasos Tec; the Director of the COBAY Santa Rosa campus, José Francisco Puga Sosa; and the Councilor and Chair of the Sustainability Commission, Gabriela Baqueiro Valencia.
