Plastics Factory Catches Fire South of Merida

The plastics and polyethylene factory “Polpusa” was the scene of a fierce fire south of the capital of Yucatan. Fortunately, the staff working there managed to evacuate in time. Additionally, the nearby Bimbo company also had to evacuate its employees for safety reasons, as the fire threatened to spread.

It was past noon when the devastating fire consumed several areas inside the company. The black smoke covered the skies of the Industrial City. Upon receiving the notification, paramedics and police officers from the Public Security Secretariat (SSP) arrived at the scene.

Minutes later, the distant sirens of the Fire Department trucks could be heard. Upon their arrival, the firefighters quickly unraveled their hoses, activated the pumps, and unleashed the first jets of water against the raging fire.

Meanwhile, several patrol cars blocked the traffic and surrounded the area to secure it, as explosions could be heard inside the plastics factory. Fortunately, the personnel had already been evacuated.

Several hours passed before the firefighters were able to control the fire that was consuming the factory, preventing the flames from spreading to the large bakery.
