Julián Zacarías receives the Swiss ambassador in Mexico

In a gesture that contributes to strengthening the international projection of Progreso, Mayor Julián Zacarías received a visit from the Swiss Ambassador to Mexico, Pietro Piffaretti. 

The meeting, which was also attended by the ambassador’s wife, Rosita Pérez Piffaretti, the Director of Swiss Business Hub Mexico, Rubén Araiza Díaz, the Trade Officer of Swiss Business Hub Mexico, Michelle Adamo Pompa and the Director of Economic Development and Tourist of the Mérida City Council, José Luis Martínez Semerena, took place at the Progreso City Council headquarters and was a key moment to strengthen the ties of friendship between the two countries and explore opportunities for collaboration in various areas.

During the meeting, the mayor expressed his gratitude for the presence of the Swiss diplomat and stressed the importance of promoting cultural, economic and tourist exchange with this European nation. “It is an honor and a pleasure to receive such distinguished visitors. There is no doubt that Progreso is ready to continue growing and developing for the better, and this meeting strengthens the path that we have traced to put our port in the eyes of the world with more investment for the benefit of Progreso families,” added the mayor.

Ambassador Piffaretti’s visit to this port demonstrates Switzerland’s interest in strengthening ties with Mexico and, in particular, with the state of Yucatan. The purpose of his presence in our entity is to make a new investment in the municipality of Mérida and, in this context, they were also interested in learning about Progreso.

This meeting leaves an important precedent for the municipality of Progreso and opens the doors to future collaborations and joint projects between both countries. Julián Zacarías was optimistic about the positive impact that this visit will have on the development and well-being of the Progresso community, as well as on the strengthening of diplomatic ties between Mexico and Switzerland.

The meeting concluded with an exchange of symbolic gifts, as a gesture of friendship and mutual respect, the mayor gave mangrove honey to all attendees and a hammock for the ambassador. For his part, the ambassador gave the mayor a Swiss army knife.

The Swiss diplomat said goodbye to Progreso expressing his gratitude for the warm welcome and expressing his hope that this visit will be the beginning of a fruitful and lasting relationship between both nations.
