Fishermen capture a rare bird at the Chocolate Pier in Progreso

Once again, it has been reported that residents of this municipality found a species that is not commonly seen in the port of Progreso. This time, it was a bird injured by a fishing hook, and the heroes of this incident were a group of fishermen located at the “Chocolate Pier.”

Around eight in the morning, a seafarer spotted the bird, and realizing the danger posed by its condition, he decided to protect the injured animal and notify the members of the ecological police unit located a few meters away from the mentioned structure.

After handing over the male bird to the authorities, it was taken to the facilities of the unit in the “Vicente Guerrero” neighborhood, where it was evaluated by veterinarian Diego Herber Borge Novelo, who applied the necessary measures.

Through a thorough check-up, it was confirmed that the bird was in good condition, and it was subsequently released in the “zona cero” located along the stretch that connects Progreso with the Chicxulub community.

The Common Linnet (Linaria cannabina) is a slender bird with a long tail. The outer parts of its body are brown, the neck is somewhat whitish, and the beak is gray. Its scientific name refers to its preference for hemp seeds, which are favored in the nutrition of these birds.
