A rescued chimpanzee named Vainilla touched hearts on social media by showing a gesture of astonishment upon seeing the sky for the first time.
Save the Chimps, a sanctuary in Florida, shared the heartwarming video in which the primate nervously steps outside and then opens her mouth in awe as she looks up.
Vainilla spent the first two years of her life in an experimental medicine laboratory in New York and had never seen the sky until she was rescued and arrived at the sanctuary.
Now the chimpanzee has gone from a cage measuring one and a half square meters to an enclosure of over 12,000 square meters, where she has the opportunity to socialize with others of her kind and see the sun and the sky whenever she wants.
