Chiapas minors roam the streets of Merida, a problem that the state government must address

Mérida, Yucatán, June 20, 2023.- To protect their health and given the risk situation in which they found themselves, the State Government implemented a series of actions to rescue a group of minors and women from the state of Chiapas, who were living in deplorable conditions in different parts of the city of Mérida.

In a joint operation, which was accompanied at all times by the state Human Rights Commission (Codhey) and under the direction of the state Attorney for the Defense of Children and Adolescents (Prodennay), agents of the State Coordination of Civil Protection (Procivy) and the Secretaries of Health (SSY) and Public Security (SSP), as well as the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) carried out a dozen inspections in various areas of the Yucatecan capital, which left as a balance the insurance of 2 properties.

Similarly, they implemented these actions with minors who were working on public roads under the extreme temperatures that have been recorded in recent weeks and without the minimum hygienic measures.

Faced with this situation, the State Government calls on society to report to the authorities when they notice suspicious places where children enter, as well as report when they see minors working or roaming the streets. Similarly, the state authorities urge the population not to give money to minors or women who beg on the streets so as not to encourage this type of activity.

Until now, the people rescued are under the care of the State System for the Integral Development of the Family (DIF-Yucatán), an instance that provides them with the necessary attention while their situation is defined. It is worth mentioning that the State Government already works in coordination with the Attorney General’s Office and the DIF of the state of Chiapas.

As a result of these actions implemented by the state government, one of the people insured during this device, who had a 16-year-old girl under his care with whom he is not related, was issued an arrest warrant for kidnapping and illegal deprivation. of freedom according to the consultation that was made within Plataforma México, for which he was arrested.
