Boat capsizes off the coast of Chuburná Puerto

Five people had to swim to the beach after their boat named “Mabel” capsized 2 kilometers offshore due to heavy rain and rough waves.

On Sunday, June 25th, in the jetty area of Chuburná Puerto, in the municipality of Progreso, Yucatán, police officers who arrived at the scene were informed that the “Mabel” boat capsized with its five occupants 2 kilometers offshore.

The capsizing was caused by the heavy rain and rough waves.

The five crew members swam to the shore where they were assessed by paramedics from the police force. One of them suffered minor abrasions.

Two boats were responsible for towing the boat and taking it to a safe location.
