In Yucatan, an average of seven cases of dengue fever are detected daily, according to data from the Ministry of Health. In just the last week, there were 48 confirmed cases of the disease, placing the state in second position for infections nationwide, the highest number in the past three years.
Additionally, two deaths associated with the symptoms of dengue hemorrhagic fever have been reported, but they are still under investigation, and it cannot be confirmed yet whether the virus transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito is the direct cause of these deaths.
In the state, up to week 24, as shown in the Dengue Epidemiological Panorama 2023, a total of 575 cases have been reported, representing a 9.11% increase compared to the previous week, which had only 527 cases. The incidence rate reached 25 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, maintaining Yucatan in second place nationwide, only behind Quintana Roo, which has already reported 1,129 confirmed cases and an incidence rate of 66.40. The other peninsular state, Campeche, ranks seventh with 49 infections.
According to the Ministry of Health, the Yucatan Peninsula accounts for over half of the total number of cases in the country: 1,843 cases (52.58%) out of 3,505 recorded cases.
