The Cámara Nacional de la Industria Restaurantera y Alimentos Condimentados (CANIRAC) revealed that in the first five months of the year 100 restaurants opened, including large, medium-sized and small restaurants. These new businesses are mainly located in the city of Mérida.
The president of Canirac, Claudia González Góngora, recalled that during the pandemic 13 thousand business units in Yucatán closed their doors, of which some 3 thousand did not reopen.
She added that today those 13 thousand businesses are working again, so the sector shows signs of growth in this first semester 2023, where events such as Mother’s Day, Children’s Day and Easter Week, generated good revenue and an increase in the arrival of diners.
In an interview, the business leader pointed out that the restaurant sector is currently strengthened, where the number of food and beverage economic units grew 40% percent compared to last year and the peak days of the coronavirus pandemic.
