After the torrential downpour that occurred on Friday evening, users of the Va y Ven transportation system reported flooding in a unit on the Route 42 South.
Through social media, users highlighted a deficiency in the new public transportation units, as after the heavy rain in Mérida, the streets in the southern part of the city became flooded, and water entered the interior of the unit.
According to a video and a social media post, water entered the interior of the public transportation unit after passing through 42nd Street, in front of the IMSS Medical Unit 58.
It is presumed that the affected unit belongs to the Metropolitan Route, which recently started operating and has experienced several incidents, such as collisions involving drivers who fail to gauge the size of these new units.
The video shows how passengers have to sit with their legs in the air to avoid getting their feet wet, given the river of water flooding the units.
This situation has revealed a deficiency in this type of public transportation, and many users are wondering what awaits them in the upcoming rainy season.
It should be noted that just a few days ago, a Va y Ven unit sparked controversy when its engine caught fire while traveling on the Mérida periphery.
This unit began emitting smoke to the incredulous gaze of the driver.
According to information gathered, the unit was traveling along the mentioned road around 2:00 PM when it started emitting smoke from the engine area, causing passengers to disembark and wait for the next unit, resulting in delays for passengers. However, no injuries were reported.
It is worth mentioning that the Va y Ven system has been involved in controversy due to various malfunctions, such as the recent fire incident and the flooding of a unit during heavy rain. Therefore, it is considered that further adjustments are needed for the service to be of “top quality.”
