MÉRIDA, Yucatan, May 12, 2022 – In order to create the conditions for educational communities to have opportunities for academic, social and personal development through sports, the Ministry of Education of the Yucatan State Government and the Mexican Basketball Sports Association (ADEMEBA) signed a letter of intent to promote this discipline among Yucatan’s high school students.
At State High School No. 3 CTM, Liborio Vidal Aguilar, head of the Ministry of Education, urged the students to remain firm in the fight for their dreams with discipline and perseverance, which are values that can be strengthened through the practice of a sport.
He stressed the importance of youth for the development of the state of Yucatán and called on them to add basketball to their lives, so that it can help them lead a healthy and addiction-free life.
“Sport not only helps us to stay strong, but also allows us to learn social skills, such as teamwork, perseverance and communication; as well as to focus on goals and develop strategies to win,” he added.
With the signing of this letter of intent, Segey is creating synergy to promote basketball in high schools in order to encourage this sport competitively and promote international events in Yucatan, with the promotion among students.
Likewise, Jorge Carlos López Febles, president of Ademeba, informed that due to the outstanding level of sports in Yucatán, the state will host six sporting events, of which two are international U16 championships, one U18 women’s championship, another U14 men’s championship, two national mini-basketball championships and pre-Mundiales competitions. With these activities, the state will receive eight international teams, with great exponents of the sport who will also offer workshops and courses for interested athletes.
Likewise, the director of the Yucatan State Sports Institute (IDEY), Carlos Saenz Castillo, expressed the importance of creating an alliance between sports and education and reaffirmed his commitment to include students from different sectors and educational communities in Yucatan.
Daniela Marroquí Jurado, a member of the women’s basketball team at CTM State High School No. 3, highlighted the importance of these efforts, which will have an impact on the academic and sports performance of young people.
“This is a valuable opportunity that brings us closer to our sports goals and at the same time will open many doors for us,” she added.
