Isla Cerritos is a sanctuary for migratory birds, and thousands of them arrive annually at this island located five kilometers from the port. The place is simply exceptional. What attracts tourism the most is the history of this beautiful place, revealed Ángel Jesús Durán Marrufo, representative of the Punta Bachul Tourist Cooperative.
In the context of the International Migratory Bird Day, to be celebrated tomorrow, it is worth spreading the word about this terrestrial paradise. Durán said that there are 333 species of birds in the area, including 177 resident species, 142 migratory species, and 14 resident-migratory species, making this site an ideal Eden for birdwatching tours.
In the area, you can find sea sparrows, beach seagulls, swallows, pelicans, cormorants, frigatebirds, tiger herons, grackles, kingfishers, and white ibises, which make Isla Cerritos their habitat for nesting and feeding.
You can also enjoy the graceful flight of the spoonbill heron, the white heron, the little egret, the white-winged dove, the toucan, the xtakay, and the yah.
Durán informed that between the months of November and February, over 300,000 migratory water birds arrive, using the Ría Lagartos and Celestún Reserves, as well as the state reserves of Dzilam de Bravo and El Palmar, as their winter refuges.
