The Mérida City Hall and the Instituto Tecnológico de Mérida (TecNM) signed a collaboration agreement to bring the services offered by the municipal government closer to the students, as well as to carry out future activities in collaboration, such as programs and actions aimed at culture, sports or entrepreneurship.

The program, called Ayuntamiento en mi Tecnológico, arose as part of an initiative of students who approached the municipal government to request information about the support, services and programs offered by the municipal government. The first activity consisted of inviting the departments of Social Development, Culture, Health and Social Welfare, Economic Development and Tourism, the Sustainable Development Unit and the Municipal Women’s Institute, among others, to the institute’s facilities so that the young people could learn about the programs and services that these agencies have to offer.

Programs of interest

Among the programs that were presented, the Municipal Center for Entrepreneurs was highlighted, which offers courses, training and accompaniment to those who wish to start a business and which, according to official figures, has supported 6,272 applicants.

Also highlighted was the current edition of the “Be part of the 100” program, which currently supports close to 600 businesses in various sectors and seeks to promote economic development in the neighborhoods and police stations of Merida.

A similar case is the Micromer and Macromer programs as a good opportunity to access credit for the growth and consolidation of productive projects in various sectors, through loans granted to people who generally do not have the opportunity to obtain credit in banks; in this regard, it was mentioned that in 20 years Micromer has delivered 3 thousand 30 loans for an approximate amount of 78 million pesos.

Other programs of interest to students included support for prescription glasses, scholarships for EXANI I and II courses, and the Computadora en Casa program, which facilitates the acquisition of laptop computers.

Agreement

The signatories of this agreement were the mayor of Mérida, Renán Barrera Concha, and the director of TecNM, José Canto Esquivel. “With this agreement, your school and the City Hall can work hand in hand in various areas that favor and enrich the students of the Tecnológico de Mérida, such as actions or programs aimed at culture, sports or entrepreneurship, to name a few,” said the mayor.

For his part, Canto Esquivel thanked the Mayor for this synergy, in which they will join efforts to provide better development opportunities for young people who are pursuing a career.

The event was attended by councilman Rafael Rodríguez Méndez, president of the Youth, Sports and Education Commission; Julio Sauma Castillo, Secretary of Citizen Participation; María José Cáceres Delgado, Ildefonso Machado Domínguez and Martha Elena Gómez Nechar, directors of Social Development, Health and Social Welfare and Municipal Comptroller, as well as academic staff and directors of the Instituto Tecnológico de Mérida.
