The high temperatures recorded this Saturday in Yucatan have unleashed a ‘wave’ of fires, causing a strong mobilization of emergency services.
Initial reports indicate that an area of brush in the Francisco de Montejo subdivision of Merida began to catch fire during the afternoon.
Firefighters from the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) have been mobilized in the area to control the fire, the cause of which is unknown.
A double trailer truck caught fire on Saturday afternoon at kilometer six of the Merida-Motul highway, near a motel.
According to the truck driver, the incident occurred while he was driving with two trailers loaded with bales of dry corn leaves. The flames from a roadside fire reached one of the trailers.
Due to the flammable nature of the cargo, the product caught fire quickly. The driver got out to see what could be done, but the fire had already spread to the other trailer and even the cabin.
Several people passing by the site alerted the authorities to send firefighters and extinguish the flames.
