Renán Barrera will promote Yucatecan producers in Mérida

Mérida will be a strategic ally for rural products to find distribution channels through fair trade.

The Mayor of Mérida, Renán Barrera Concha, will work with municipalities in southern Yucatán to share successful public policies in the field of agricultural promotion, local economy merchandise distribution channels, and fair trade. This will bring significant benefits to improve the quality of life for Yucatecan families.

During his visit to Tekax, invited by Mayor Diego Ávila Romero, Renán Barrera first visited Huerto Número 8 in the Pencuyut community, which is dedicated to the cultivation and harvesting of various products that are dehydrated for seasoning production.

During the visit to this project supported by the Rotary Club in collaboration with the Tekax Municipal Government, the Mayor of Mérida assured that he and Ávila Romero are working together to listen to the needs of local producers and identify programs that can be replicated in the municipality.

During the tour, Barrera Concha proposed to Ávila Romero to link the agricultural sector in Tekax through the Caja de Campo project, which is a catalog of rural products offered to the restaurant and commercial sector. Additionally, the products would be showcased at the Slow Food Natural Products Market, ensuring fair trade for families.

As the second point on his agenda, he held a meeting with entrepreneurs, tourism service providers, representatives of agricultural and livestock producer organizations, where he presented the Micromer and Macromer programs as alternatives to stimulate the growth of the local economy.

Ávila Romero highlighted in his speech that there is a political willingness among mayors to work together in pursuit of a better quality of life for the inhabitants of Yucatán, particularly in finding solutions through successful programs and actions that address similar issues.
