Public transportation in Mérida will accept credit and debit card payments in the coming months, thanks to the introduction of new self-payment devices to expand the onboard options of the “Va y Ven” routes in Yucatán.

This was announced by Rafael Hernández Kotasek, the head of the Yucatán Institute of Mobility and Urban Territorial Development (IMDUT), who presented a contactless payment device from the company Littlepay during the Smart City Expo Latam Congress 2023, held in the capital of Yucatán.

The state official noted that currently, the three routes to the Las Américas housing development, as well as the Periférico, Circuito Metropolitano, Nocturnas, and Circuito Interior Américas routes, are paid for using the “Va y Ven” smart card. These cards can be recharged at ATMs located in the city center and the outskirts, as well as at various convenience stores.

Hernández Kotasek added that this type of technology will definitely be integrated into all the units of the “Va y Ven” Sustainable Mobility System in Mérida before the end of 2023.
