Mayor Julián Zacarías Curi welcomed the executive director of Rally Maya Mexico, Benjamín de la Peña Mara, who symbolically delivered a donation of 20 wheelchairs for adults, 7 bicycles for young people, 4 for boys and 2 for girls, made by the Peralta Foundation for the benefit of the community of Progreso. In addition, the rally team presented a plaque commemorating the event to the mayor.
In this context, Zacarías Curi thanked for the donation and highlighted the importance that, through the Rally Maya, the organizers and participants are promoting tourism and doing their bit with social support to help the people who need it most. He also added that “today, we have a tourist product to offer from end to end on the coast of the Progreso territory. In Chuburna there is Isla Columpios, in Chelem there is Villa Pig Beach and a new tourist pier is being built. In addition, in Progreso there are two boardwalks with more than 50 attractions and photographic stops, including the Meteorite Museum, and on the road to Chicxulub there is the Sendero Jurásico theme park”.
At the end of the meeting, the mayor invited the attendees to see the classic cars that are part of this rally, which were driven along the Malecón Tradicional street.
The Progreso City Hall will deliver the 20 wheelchairs to people who previously submitted their request to the Municipal DIF. The bicycles will also be given to students from different schools in the port who have the best academic averages.
It should be noted that the Rally Maya Mexico is one of the most important events of historic cars nationally and internationally and visited the port of Progreso for the first time in 2019. On this occasion, as part of its Ninth Edition, 120 cars are participating, which, from May 18 to 27, will travel 1,100 kilometers through the 3 states that make up the Yucatan Peninsula with the purpose of promoting the history, culture, archeology and gastronomy of the region.
