Locals and visitors in the city of Mérida took advantage of the Sunday bike ride on the Biciruta of Paseo de Montejo to try out the new Mobike public bike service, which was launched last Wednesday with the release of the “En Bici” application.
Dozens of bicycles distributed at different stations along the mentioned avenue were used by users who didn’t miss the opportunity to test their comfort and, above all, the functionality of the application through which they can rent them.
Knowing that the service will be free for the next three months, Biciruta visitors downloaded the mobile application promoted by the Mérida City Council to register their information and subsequently unlock one of the available bicycles.
“Taking advantage of the fact that it’s new and free, I wanted to experience it. I think it’s a good way to encourage people to try it,” said Efraín Góngora, who downloaded the application and was able to unlock the bike lock in less than five minutes.
The young student from the Technological Institute of Mérida mentioned that it will be a very effective alternative for commuting to his school since he travels daily from the city center to the Campestre neighborhood, taking two buses and waiting for up to 20 minutes.
“I think I would continue using it because for the same amount of money, I can get there faster, and there is a bike station near my school where I can leave this one and later take another one to return,” he added.
Nallely Sosa arrived in Mérida last week from Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz. Without knowing it, the day after her arrival in the Yucatecan capital, the “En Bici” program was introduced.
The young woman stated that it is a good initiative to promote mobility through an alternative means of transportation that takes care of the environment and, above all, brings benefits to the health of users.
Although she mentioned that she will only be in the city for a couple more days, she assured that if this service were available in her hometown, she would use it constantly.
