Once again, a Mexican wine was named the best in the world. It was recently announced that Cenzontle Blanco 2019, produced by the winemaker Jesús Rivera, in the Guadalupe Valley, was selected as the 2023 Revelation White Wine of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles (CMB) .
Cenzontle was the best rated among those in the class, being a greater achievement considering that in the 30th edition of this international competition, 7,504 samples from 50 nations were presented to be blind tasted by 320 judges from all over the world.
Cenzontle Blanco 2019 is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Palomino aged in French oak barrels, produced by Rivera for Finca El Empecinado in partnership with the El Cielo winery.
Described with a canary yellow color with golden sparkles, on the nose it has aromas of pineapple, green apple, apricot, mandarin orange, guava and light notes of butter. Experts point out that in the mouth it has a medium body and a pleasant balance between acidity and alcohol.
Jesús Rivera is once again the winner in a revelation wine category: he had already won once with Caipirinha 2016, as a Revelation Red in 2019.
The CMB director for Latin America and North America, Carlos Borboa, highlighted that never in the history of this and other competitions has the same winemaker repeated the top prize with a red and a white.
85 Mexican wines obtained a medal in the CMB 2024 . Cenzontle Blanco 2019, Santo Domingo Wine 2017 and Tres Raíces Pinot Noir 2021 were the ones that obtained the “Great Gold” medals, 43 gold and 39 silver medals were also obtained.
