Metal bar rips through a vehicle in Periférico de Mérida

A spectacular traffic accident occurred in the early hours of this Sunday, May 21st, in Mérida’s Periferico, where a vehicle was embedded in the retaining wall and was practically destroyed.

However, the driver, who was apparently under the influence of alcohol, was lucky as he lived to tell the tale and even escaped from the scene.

The events occurred around 5 in the morning in the north of the Mérida’s Periferico, at the height of the Cholul bridge, where a Versa was traveling from West to East going up the bridge, but at one point the driver lost control of the car and collided with the metal bar.

It is a Versa car with Yucatan license plate number YXY-486-E that was going in the inside lane and when going up the Altabrisa bridge it lost control and crashed into the metal retaining wall.

Due to the speed, the metallic structure went across the vehicle, destroying the windshield and the back glass of the car. Despite the tremendous accident, the driver was able to survive the incident and flee the scene.

Moments later, emergency units from the Ministry of Public Security (SSP) arrived at the scene but found the car empty.

The agents checked the interior of the vehicle and observed blood stains. It was said that they will review the video surveillance systems to find out more details about the accident.
