The inclusion of all individuals is a principle that the Municipality of Progreso, led by Julián Zacarías Curi, seeks to reflect in all the works and actions it carries out. With that purpose in mind, through the Department of Public Services and Ecology, a new ramp for people with disabilities was installed at the Chocolate Pier, located on the International Boardwalk of this city.
This structure, measuring 5 meters wide by 10 meters long, will improve the mobility of people with disabilities participating in the race for Navy Day, commemorated nationally on June 1st. Subsequently, it will remain there for the benefit of the residents and visitors of Progreso. In this context, the mayor urged everyone to take care of and respect this new access, which is exclusively designed for people with disabilities and not as a pedestrian walkway. “It is very important that, together, we maintain these facilities in good condition so that people with disabilities who visit this site can do so safely,” he added.
It is worth noting that in December 2019, the Municipality of Progreso laid the foundations for inclusion by installing special infrastructure to establish the first inclusive beach in the state. This beach features a pedestrian path, signage, and tactile signaling for individuals with low vision, as well as two palapas and a hardwood ramp, among other adaptations. Furthermore, it is equipped with five amphibious chairs, one of which was acquired by the Municipality of Progreso to provide beach rides, while the other four were donated by the State Government.
Through these inclusive actions, the administration of Julián Zacarías is working to promote the well-being of families and visitors to Progreso.
