The first route of the IE-TRAM electric system will be ready in approximately a month and a half, along with two of its stations, one of which will connect to the Tren Maya, announced Sergio Chan Lugo, the director of Road Infrastructure (Incay).
He explained that the Kanasín-Teya-La Plancha route and the stations at these two points will be completed in July; the second station will connect to the railway. For now, a 5-kilometer section that is practically finished in the eastern part of the capital, along Calle 39, will be used for the testing of the first demo bus, which arrived in the state today from Vigo, Spain. “The testing will be done in segments, as we still have intersections to finish,” clarified the state official.
Rafael Hernández Kotasek, the director of the Institute of Mobility and Territorial Urban Development (Imdut), explained that to connect Kanasín with Teya from La Plancha on the Periferico, a special pavement will be laid down, different from the one currently covering the IE-TRAM route on Calle 39, to accommodate the electric vehicles.
Chan Lugo pointed out that the IE-TRAM works from La Plancha to the Periférico are over 90% complete, so the first vehicle that arrives in the state will be able to carry out trips. The nearly five-kilometer stretch, which includes Calle 39 and Avenida 7 with 45, already has wide sections of asphalt surface where the electric units will move. This will be sufficient for conducting tests with the demo unit. “The testing will be done in segments, as we still have intersections to finish,” he clarified.
He stated that the estimated completion of the works is in July, alongside the recently started works in Kanasín. “Thus, in August, we will have completed the first stage, with the Kanasín-Teya-La Plancha route,” he highlighted. The stations at La Plancha and Teya will also be ready, with the latter connecting to the Tren Maya station.
Likewise, in July, the construction of the other IE-TRAM route will begin, from Umán to the Faculty of Engineering at the Autonomous University of Yucatán (UADY), shared the official. “In this way, as instructed by Governor Mauricio Vila, we will complete everything by the end of November,” he affirmed.
On the other hand, Rafael Hernández Kotasek, the director of the Institute of Mobility and Territorial Urban Development, explained that for the connection of the Kanasín and Teya sections to the circuit coming from La Plancha, repaving work will be carried out on the Periférico, allowing the transit of electric units.
