The Fondo Nacional de Fomento al Turismo (National Fund for Tourism Development) is planning to deliver 155 homes to people who used to live on the right-of-way of the Tren Maya in the municipality of Candelaria, which is part of Section 1 that runs from Palenque, Chiapas, to Escárcega, in Campeche, since in Campeche there are about 80 kilometers of railroad tracks out of the 226 that make up the total extension.

In addition, the director of Fonatur, Javier May Rodríguez, emphasized that public works are carried out with the participation of the communities and towns, since “the people are deciding which works are required” and they are already making progress in this area.

He exemplified that in the community of Ejido El Naranjo, in the municipality of Candelaria, which is part of section 1, “we are almost ready to deliver roads, streets, electrification, health center and water”.

He pointed out that “they were very abandoned communities that did not have services, that their infrastructure was in poor, precarious conditions; today we can say that we have made a lot of progress there”.

He pointed out that in other population centers “we paved almost all the streets, all the ejidos, they were completely paved; in some we are asking for roofing, schools and the houses we are delivering”.

He explained that the houses are for the people who lived on the right of way and announced that “we are now going to deliver a subdivision in Candelaria, which is the largest, with around 155 houses”.

He emphasized that it would be the largest subdivision that Fonatur is going to deliver for the work of the Mayan Train, while he estimated that next month (June) they would be handing over the keys to the houses.

He reiterated that in addition to these actions, resources for more than 800 million pesos in additional infrastructure works have already been allocated to Campeche, in addition to the cost of the Xpujil aqueduct and the money from social development programs such as those for the elderly, disability, scholarships, Sembrando Vida, housing improvement and other investments from the rest of the programs.

He stated that these actions are in all the municipalities through which the railroad crosses, where they attend to “the housing program, infrastructure improvement, equipment; in the municipal capitals we are attending to all the backlog that existed and that is being done together with the community, now it is the community that proposes the specific needs,” he reiterated.

On the other hand, he expressed that in the actions that the operation of the Mayan Train can contribute is to be able to bring tourists arriving to the Riviera Maya to the Entities of the Peninsula, as well as to Tabasco and Chiapas.

He specified that in 2022 there were 30 million visitors, domestic and foreign tourists, so they estimate that 3 million tourists could come to Campeche, both to the capital city and to all the tourist attractions.

He emphasized that the demand for occupancy will be there, since tourism detonates the economy, besides financing the development of the country.

He emphasized that the demand for employment will be there, since tourism detonates the economy, in addition to financing social development, so that “there will be no need to emigrate, but there will be employment opportunities, work opportunities, where the people live, in their communities; we can show the gastronomy we have and the cultural richness”.
