The fire would have started due to a short circuit inside the abandoned building on Paseo de Montejo

A short circuit would have been the cause of a strong fire that originated inside an abandoned building located on Paseo de Montejo in Mérida.

The events occurred on the evening of Sunday, May 14th, when police and firefighters from the Ministry of Public Security (SSP) responded to the report of a fire.

Smoke began to come out of the abandoned building between located on Paseo de Montejo, 37th and 39th streets, for which reason the passage through the area had to be blocked.

The transit from South to North on the famous Mérida avenue was closed for a couple of hours, and the fire is presumed to have started in a warehouse.

After a few moments, firefighters managed to control the situation, which could have been caused by a short circuit inside the premises, as this property has been abandoned for a long time, and it previously worked as a nightclub.
