Mérida will soon have electric patrol cars, which will save fuel and reduce environmental impact. It is expected that they will arrive before the end of 2023 and that a similar number will be acquired each year, so that the entire vehicle fleet will be environmentally friendly, informed Mayor Renán Barrera Concha.
He specified that the Merida Police has about 80 vehicles, which must be renewed because they travel between 3,000 and 4,000 kilometers per month in their surveillance activities; the goal is to introduce more profitable and less polluting vehicles, therefore, the goal is to provide new cars for the use of the elements of the corporation this year.
Electric patrols in Merida
The mayor of the Yucatan capital said that the city received 19 million pesos of federal resources for this proposal, so they are budgeting the vehicle, the equipment of the patrols and establish the possibility of starting this change before the end of 2023.
“We have met with the dealers of the brands of these cars and we will look for a scheme similar to that of the city of Hermosillo, Sonora, the only one in the country that renewed its entire fleet with 230 ecological vehicles, which integrates its own energy charging point, so we are requesting quotes to start with the transition, if we hurry, they would even arrive for the next summer vacations, but it will surely be before the end of this year,” he said.
