Members of sexual and gender diversity collectives in Yucatán will kick off activities leading up to International LGBTQ+ Pride Day with a gathering at the Monument to the Fatherland in Mérida.
The activity will take place in the context of the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia, commemorated on February 17.
It is part of the Festival of Sexual Diversity (Fesdy), preceding the massive and colorful Pride March, which will be held in downtown Mérida on June 10th this year.
Under the motto “My Identity, My Right,” members of these groups from Yucatán society are invited to attend at 5:00 PM at the mentioned monument located on Paseo de Montejo in Mérida.
The objective of the protest will be to demand recognition for transgender individuals and to urge the Yucatán State Congress to make the necessary changes to the Civil Registry Law regarding gender identity changes for transgender people.
As in previous years, the mobilization will include the display of a colossal rainbow flag to cover the Rómulo Rozo sculpture, symbolizing their stance on the issues mentioned and sharing testimonies about the challenges faced by the transgender community.
