By the end of 2024 inflation would be 3%, says Banxico’s deputy governor

MEXICO CITY. April 26, 2023.- The Deputy Governor of Banco de México, Omar Mejía Castelazo affirmed that inflation in Mexico could return to the 3 percent target during the fourth quarter of 2024, as there is a clear downward trend.

In a statement on his participation in the SHCP 2023 Chair at UNAM’s School of Economics (FE), with the topic The Mexican economy facing the global challenges of 2023, he pointed out that inflation pressures have begun to ease in recent months. Last September it reached its highest level, 8.7 percent, and in the first two weeks of April it stood at 6.24 percent.

In the Narciso Bassols Auditorium of this academic entity and accompanied by the director of the FE, Eduardo Vega López, the official explained that the increase in food prices at international level has had an impact on the inflation of food, beverages, tobacco and food services in our country, which has contributed with approximately 62 percent of the increase in inflation in the last 12 months.
