On the occasion of World Bee Day and with the aim of raising awareness about the importance of these insects in the world and their current conditions in the region, Abeja Planet, with the support of the “Kabil Jool” Cooperative Society of Beekeepers in Yucatán, will organize the 4th Honey Festival. The event will feature keynote talks, panel discussions, guided visits to the beekeeping area, and other activities.

The festival will take place at the Interactive Park Abeja Planet, located on the Mérida-Molas highway, from May 30th to June 2nd, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. In addition to the mentioned activities, there will be stands offering products made with honey, and the “Ah Muzen Cab” ceremony, an offering to the four bacabs (Mayan gods), which is done in honor of the God of Bees. Likewise, there will be activities for children and youth.

Nelly Ortiz Vázquez, director of the Abeja Planet Association and former president of the Union of Beekeepers in Yucatán, commented that the fair is held to make society aware of the conditions in which bees live due to pollution and deforestation in the state, and the importance of continuing to promote beekeeping programs.

“We are working year after year to raise awareness among all human beings about the condition in which bees are living and what we can contribute, even if we are not beekeepers or meliponiculturists, simply because without bees, there is no planet. That’s why we will talk about how we can help with waste management, not using chemicals when fumigating, planting trees, and more,” she said.

She also mentioned that within the fourth edition of the Honey Festival, the first Crafts Festival will also take place, where visitors can enjoy authentic rural Yucatecan cuisine.
