Which Yucatan towns want to become Magical Towns?

Seven municipalities in Yucatan are still waiting to receive their designation as Magical Towns of Mexico, said Michelle Fridman Hirsch, head of the Secretariat of Tourism Development of Yucatan.

She said that they expect a positive response from the Federal Government, since they complied in time and form in the integration of the folders with all the requirements for these communities to receive this distinction.

She specified that they delivered to the federal Secretary of Tourism several files of towns that have the pretension of having this designation that although it does not bring economic benefits to be designated, it does contribute so that more people decide to know a municipality that is a Pueblo Mágico.

“Since 2019, it presented several candidates, of which two were chosen, so the State has four Magical Towns: Izamal, Valladolid, Maní and Sisal, but this time it was done before the call is opened to designate the new municipalities that will have this distinctive, but we have to wait for the forms, that the files are technically put in and the Secretariat of Tourism makes its evaluations,” she said.

The official said that seven files were submitted, Tekax, Rio Lagartos, Motul, San Felipe, El Cuyo, Espita and Muna; but we have to wait for the Secretary of Tourism to make the evaluation and give more banners to Yucatan.

He commented that Yucatán is expected to continue breaking records in visitor arrivals for the Easter vacations, something that will maintain the sector’s inertia; 2022 was a record year and 2023 looks to be the same, with occupancy of up to 100 percent.
