The Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT) in Yucatan, through the General Road Conservation Residence, is making progress in the maintenance and routine conservation work of highway sections for the attention of 1,572.38 kilometers of the free federal highway network in the state.
Authorities from the SICT Center in Yucatan, led by the General Director, Luis Pimentel Miranda, make periodic visits to verify the progress and compliance with the work program, which will invest 220 million Mexican pesos in the current year.
The routine conservation program for highway sections began in the second half of February. Currently, the crews perform weeding, ditch cleaning, right-of-way alignment, surface patching, and cleaning on the following highways: Merida-Progreso, Merida-Tizimin, Conkal-Chicxulub Puerto, Merida-Tekanto, Merida-Puerto Juarez, Merida-Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Merida-Celestun, Campeche-Merida (short route), and Campeche-Uman, with their respective branches.
The SICT urges users not to throw garbage or waste on the main communication routes. Only during the year 2022, the equivalent amount of garbage collected to 1,200 dump trucks was collected.
The garbage collection process consumes public resources that could be allocated to additional maintenance items, such as improving pavement rehabilitation techniques.
On the other hand, during this holiday season, the SICT calls on users of the federal highway network to drive with caution, avoid using cell phones while driving, not drive under the influence of alcohol, and respect speed limits and signage for safe and efficient traffic.
