During the summer, the Progreso City Hall has prepared several festivals, among them the Coconut and Seafood Festival, which seeks to promote and detonate the economy of the ports of Chelem and Chuburna.
According to the director of Municipal Tourism, Luis Alberto García Barroso, the Coconut Festival will take place in the second half of July in Chelem, while the Seafood Festival will be held between the first and second week of August in Chuburná.
Due to the success of the Feria de la Empanada at the Festival de la Veda de Mero, the Expo Pib, the Feria de Tortas de Kibi, the aforementioned festivals were prepared for the summer on the instructions of the Mayor of Progreso, Julián Zacarías Curi.
Regarding the Chuburna Festival, it is expected that the restaurants will offer their seafood products, so it is expected to be a great success.
Seeking to win Guinness Record in Progreso
With the upcoming events the port of Progreso is expected to seek to win the Guinness Record for the largest octopus ceviche in the world.
Zacarías Curi made the announcement last Wednesday and García Barroso is working to set the date.
It is expected that the contest will take place during the mollusk season, which runs from August 1 to December 15.
The Festivals in the port have had a great response from both local and foreign tourism, so the Progreso City Hall is looking for more strategies to attract more tourism to the port.
