April 17.- For the third time in the last six months, a tourist violated security and climbed the Kukulcan pyramid in the archaeological zone of Chichen Itza in Yucatan.
This time it was a man, presumably from Yucatan, who went beyond the established limits and calmly climbed the steps to the top.
The man entered the Castle and stayed there for a few minutes, then came out and descended, while security elements were waiting to detain him.
A video captured by other visitors shows the moment in which he descends the last step, and talks with the officers, amidst boos and shouts, even some rude words, for not respecting the rules of the place.
The subject, who was wearing blue shorts and a white T-shirt, tried to be defended by a woman, whom the guards kept outside the security fence.
It is unknown what happened to the tourist who climbed the pyramid, because since 2008 the Federal Law on Archaeological, Artistic and Historic Monuments established that it was forbidden to climb the Castillo de Kukulkán, as well as other archaeological zones and structures.
Fines ranging from 5,000 to 50,000 pesos were established against those who violate these rules, and in spite of this, there have been several cases of visitors climbing the pyramid, most recently in November 2022 and January of this year.
