The omicron and delta variants of Covid-19 still persist in Quintana Roo. In this month of April there was a 347% increase in the number of cases of infection compared to last month.

As of April 23rd, reports from the Quintana Roo Ministry of Health registered an increase in the number of infections with a total of 1,247 positive patients. Compared to the previous month when there were 279 cases, there were 1,247 positive cases.

Almost three years after the first case of this disease was announced in the Yucatan Peninsula, Quintana Roo continues to lead the list of the most infected states: in April, Yucatan reported 330 cases, while Campeche 43.

The Secretary of Health of Quintana Roo, Flavio Carlos Rosado, mentioned that this is a consequence of people having relaxed sanitary prevention measures, which is why these outbreaks or peaks will be common during the high seasons, mainly.

However, he pointed out that it is necessary for citizens to keep their vaccination schedule in order and go to the corresponding modules for their booster doses.

It is very important for people who have not been vaccinated with the first or second dose to be vaccinated; there are those who have not been vaccinated with the third dose. I suggest that at all times we wash our hands with soap and water and use antibacterial gel. It sounds very simple and very easy, but it is one of the main public health preventions”.

In spite of the wave of contagions, he pointed out that these usually behave like a seasonal flu, with very few cases requiring hospitalization and practically no deaths have been recorded.

He explained that for this reason it is very likely that the contagion figures are much higher than the official ones, since most people prefer to stay at home and not report it to the health units.
