The expansion project of the Merida International Airport (MID) “Licenciado Manuel Crescencio Rejon” is already in its third phase, since the work is on schedule and is expected to be completed this year; between June and July is when the final part of the works will begin, said the terminal’s general manager, Oscar Carrillo Maldonado.

He informed that the first and second stages of the expansion are already in operation, while some details are still missing, such as what will be the arrivals hallway, which has already been completed, but has not been put into operation, as well as the new access to the last waiting room, which is already in operation.

“Before it was in the center where the elevator and the staircase were, now it is behind the building, to the far right and all the way to the back. There is the new stairway and elevator that will give access to the inspection point, where the chapel is, and then to the last waiting room,” he explained.

He mentioned that the third stage of this project consists of an expansion of room “C”, which should be opened in an average of one month. He indicated that this part is practically ready and all that is missing are some lighting details and the placement of the benches, but in a few weeks it should be up and running.

“There are final details of light bulbs, commercial area and the new vehicle rental area, it is a matter of occupying the spaces, but they are practically ready,” he said.
