Minor league soccer Saturday in Yucatán

Yucatecan professional soccer gets more and more relevant in the Peninsula.

One of its teams can lift the trophy of the Serie B, the Premier League, which was formerly the Second Division, and another of its teams will fight to advance to the group stage of the Third Division League.

T’hó Mayas will face Alebrijes de Oaxaca at the “Carlos Iturralde Rivero” Stadium for the 2023 Clausura B Series crown.

In the Third Division, two matches were scheduled, but Deportiva Venados, the current champions, will not see action because the League sanctioned and eliminated Cimarrones de Sonora for an improper alignment in the first match of the round of 16 series between the affiliate teams.

Progreso FC will play, and will fight to advance to the round of 16 in the fight for promotion in the minor league. Progreso FC, part of the Venados FC family, has put together a highly respected team, always fighting among the top teams and being a reference in the Third Division, just like the Deportivista team.

Since Mérida FC was crowned in 2009 in the then Second Division, no Yucatecan team had reached the final of this category. That year, Venados de Mérida FC also won the Primera División A and their coach was David Patiño, who is now in charge of T’hó Mayas.

The Premier Cup visited the Diario to promote the Saturday final, to be played at 4 p.m. at the “Carlos Iturralde” stadium, with free admission. With all the protocol of the Liga MX finals and its minor divisions, the trophy arrived specially protected and treated with gloves during the installation of the screen and the base where it was installed. She was in this editorial house for several minutes and collaborators of Grupo Megamedia took the opportunity to take a picture with her and learn a little of the story, which was told by the presenters of the League.

“We are very happy to be here showing the Cup, the Premier League is honored to be able to present this trophy before the local T’hó Mayas and Alebrijes de Oaxaca,” said Marcela Sierra, who is the presenter of the Premier League.

The stellar match of the day is undoubtedly the Premier League final, given that a championship battle has not been played since 2009 with Patiño’s Mérida.

The Premier League is in the finals stage in its two Series (in category A, Inter Playa del Carmen disputed the championship with Tampico Madero and lost the final) and is deploying all its protocols for the final matches. Today there will be a special ceremony that will start minutes before 4 p.m., with the presentation of the two teams and the cup. Hence the decision of T’hó Mayas to play this game at the “Iturralde”, since it will have a larger capacity than the “Hipólito Tzab” in Homún, in addition to the facilities it offers for the players of both teams.
