With the publication of the National Urban Public Safety Survey corresponding to the first quarter of the year, the city of Merida reached seventh place nationally in perception of security, according to a press release.
In this context, Merida ranks first nationally in perception of security, in relation to its number of inhabitants.
The recent public safety survey records that the citizens of Mérida have a perception of security of 75.8 percent, which contrasts with other municipalities in the country. Among the main activities registered by Meridanos as having an impact on the tranquility and harmony of the city, public services and the performance of police officers stand out.
According to the data, Merida is the seventh city with the lowest perception of insecurity, behind San Pedro Garza Garcia (18.3), Benito Juarez (19.4), Piedras Negras (19.9), Los Cabos (22.7), Saltillo (23.9) and Tampico (24.1).
“It should be noted that Merida stands out nationally for the absence of high impact crimes, such as kidnapping, bank robbery, ATM robberies, violent robberies, homicides or the presence of clashes between criminal groups,” it states.
In this regard, based on information from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System, 1,820 crimes were registered in Mérida in 2022, which is below the crime rate of the six cities mentioned above.
With the recent publication of this survey that collects the opinion of the inhabitants of Mexico’s municipalities, it is highlighted that the level of trust in security indicates that seven out of 10 citizens trust the public security corporations.
Finally, data from the National Survey of Urban Public Safety establishes that the average perception of insecurity at the national level is 62.1 percent, while Merida is at 24.2 percent, that is, 37.9 percent below the national average, as a result of the effort and coordination between federal, state and municipal public safety agencies.
