MÉRIDA, Yucatan – During 2023, electricity rates will increase by 7.1% annually, which means that your next bill will see an increase compared to what you were paying in 2022.
The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) announced this rate increase, and it is the first significant increase since January 2017.
With the new tariff, as of May of this 2023 users will have to pay for every 75 kilowatt hours (kWh) per month 0.969 pesos.
This applies to domestic rates and is part of the adjustments and increases in products and services that occur annually according to inflation.
Discount for 20 states
Fortunately, in Yucatán the CFE will make a discount, due to the fact that the heat increases the consumption of electricity in homes as people resort to air conditioning systems to cool their homes.
The discount on the electricity bill for the 2023 heat wave will be applied starting in May, and will be in effect during the six months of heat or summer, so it will be until October 31 that the discount ends.
This measure applies only for states where temperatures above 30 degrees are registered, in:

Campeche
Chiapas
Chihuahua
Coahuila
Colima
Guerrero
Hidalgo
Michoacán
Morelos
Nayarit
Nuevo Leon
Oaxaca
San Luis Potosi
Sinaloa
Sonora
Tabasco
Tamaulipas

Yucatan

It should be noted that the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP) has earmarked 76,625 million pesos to subsidize electricity rates during 2023, thus controlling the price of electricity and preventing uncontrolled increases.
