The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) will build two plants in the Yucatan Peninsula to increase its electricity generation capacity. Together, they will have a generation capacity of 1,519 megawatts to increase the current capacity, which is 4,521 megawatts.
In addition, the CFE informed that the “Mayakan” gas pipeline will also be expanded, which will increase the availability of natural gas by 40 percent in the region.
“The investments that the Federal Electricity Commission is announcing and materializing have the objective of guaranteeing access to electricity at competitive prices and in a reliable manner,” commented Arturo Carranza, an energy analyst.
With these two actions on the part of the CFE, the Peninsula will be connected to the National Pipeline System, thus, investments in the region total 151 billion pesos.
“This is from Quintana Roo to Tabasco, the expansion of the marine gas pipeline that runs from the south of Texas to Tuxpan is contemplated, and the expansion is planned for Tuxpan to Coatzacoalcos and then to Paraiso”, explained the energy analyst.
According to Arturo Carranza, this is something that could in the future guarantee access to electricity not only to hotels, commerce, industry, but mainly to the citizens living in the Yucatan peninsula.
