A Mexican named best female chef in the world

Elena Reygadas was named the best female chef in the world by The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2023, one of the main global gastronomic lists.

The organization described her as an “ardent advocate of Mexican biodiversity and sustainable culture” and recalled that she launched scholarships for women to “promote greater gender parity in kitchens.

Reygadas thanked and explained that “cooking is a collective art” and that the distinction granted is “from all the very talented people with whom I have collaborated” and “from all the Mexican women who cook every day, keeping our enormous culinary tradition alive“.

The award will be presented in June at a ceremony in Valence, France, with the presence of chefs who were recognized.

Reygadas was born in Mexico City and studied English Literature at UNAM, but always loved to cook. She currently has five restaurants and a bakery in the nation’s capital.
